It's almost that time of the year when kids go back, college students return just in time for football season and life begins to feel like a sprint once again. But does it?
Think about your last vacation. How was it + How did you feel? When you weren't sleep deprived and over scheduled, you probably enjoyed life more and the people around you.
Life isn't a constant vacay but you can learn from what you experience during the time of rest. Healthy living is found when we work from our rest. Otherwise, we sprint to the weekend, burnout and start all over again each Monday.
Simplify Life by stopping before the sprint begins.
Ask yourself a few questions...
"What do I want from this year?"
"Who do I want to be for myself and my family this year?"
"What would I like to do differently this year to make it better than the last?"
Simple Steps to Simplify Life
In a culture that is constantly telling us to do more, we need to count the cost first. Small steps like 8 hours of sleep, being present (aka no phones) at the dinner table and weekly date nights make significant differences over the course of this year.
We can't do it all and something usually has to give. One more sports team, one more committee, or one more meeting will impact your time and relationships.
Before you step into the race, step back and consider. Though people might be disappointed but life will go on, the committee chair position will be filled, and your kid will still be a successful adult without being involved in 3 elite travel sports teams.
It's crucial to be mindful and having breathing room is to do the growth work in therapy. One can't learn stress management skills when over scheduled and burnout. We encourage you to create healthy habits that lead to greater overall success this school year. We know you can do it and we are here to help in the process!
