Mood-Boosting Habits You Can Do Everyday

Little things add up! If you are searching for ways to improve your mood there are easy ways to do this… so easy you may have forgotten to do them. Here are six simple habits to reincorporate into your daily routine to boost your mood.

Easy Mood-Boosting Habits to Practice Daily

1. Get Outside

Even if you only have a few minutes the benefits of being outdoors are significant. Being outdoors triggers a serotonin release which assists in mood stabilization and can reduce anxiety and depression levels. So go breathe in that fresh air even if it requires a jacket or umbrella.

2. Cultivate Gratitude

The overly marketed gratitude list… But seriously it works magic. Take two minutes to write down three things you’re thankful for at that moment. It could be anything. The chair you are sitting on or the air you are breathing in. Your existence is a miracle and taking a moment to be aware instantly contributes to a good mood.

3. Play Music

Music can reduce heart rate, center our focus, and reduce anxiety and stress levels. When can you incorporate your favorite song and enjoy this simple form of self-care? We recommend even creating playlists for when you feel anxious or frustrated.

4. Stay Connected

Humans are social creatures, so relationships are key to maintaining mood and mental health. Make it a habit to reach out to a trusted friend and ask to meet up. Supporting each other with love, positivity, and a listening ear takes time and intentionality. Set up rhythms with your closest friends to stay connected.

5. Have a Laugh

The benefits of laughter can be easily ignored when feeling down. Laughter increases oxygen levels in your brain, reduces stress, and releases dopamine, and can be only a YouTube search away. Call a friend who keeps you laughing when you’re down to take care of yourself.

6. Refocus Your Attention

Saying “next!” to negative mental spaces and moving into a better headspace is totally within our power. A short prayer for peace along with a few deep breaths can greatly help accomplish significant mental shifts. It helps to remember that you have control of your attitude and thoughts no matter the situation.
